Se um dia você estivesse na rua e visse o jovem Jamie Wilson, talvez, não desconfiasse que ele é um homem transgênero. Jamie iniciou sua transição de gênero em 2015 e, desde então, utiliza as redes sociais para compartilhar sua experiência e inspirar outras pessoas trans a sentirem orgulho de quem elas são.

A decisão chocou familiares e amigos e o próprio Jamie conta que sentiu medo. “No começo eu estava com medo de sair como transgênero porque eu não daria nenhum “sinal”, como as pessoas dizem”, escreveu ele em no Instagram, onde conta com mais de 356 mil seguidores.

At first I was scared to come out as transgender because I didn’t give any “signs” as people say. Após dois anos de tratamento hormonal, a cirurgia e muitas horas na academia, o norte-americano de 21 anos exibe o corpo do homem que sempre esteve em seu coração. As pessoas que diziam que ele era muito feminino para se tornar um homem ficaram no passado. Foram substituídas por amigos, que, ironicamente, dizem que ele é muito masculino.

“As pessoas dizem que eu estou tentando muito ser um homem cisgênero”, disse Jamie, em entrevista para o Cosmopolitan, em março deste ano. Também em março, o jovem usou sua conta no Facebook para fazer um desabafo, já que Jamie foi renegado pelos pais depois que eles descobriram que o filho era trans.

“Eu sinto falta dos meus parentes sentindo orgulho de mim… Mas você sabe do que eu não sinto falta? Eu não sinto falta das noites em que ficava deitado sozinho batalhando com meus próprios sentimentos… Eu não sinto falta de esperar por ninguém sair de casa para poder me vestir como homem e esconder o meu cabelo grande debaixo de um chapéu. Eu não sinto falta de me esconder”, escreveu.

Mas, Jamie não se abala mais com os comentários. Ele tem uma resposta na ponta da língua para quem achava que ele era muito ‘feminino’ para se tornar um homem e, hoje, o acham ‘masculino’ demais: “Você não é quem as pessoas acham que você é, você sabe que você é quem você é”.

A música é uma das paixões de Jamie, que é músico e compositor. Neste mês, ele se apresenta no Sziget Festival, em Budapest, na Hungria, ao lado de Chainsmokers, P! Nk e Wiz Khalifa.

People tell me everyday what I should “change” about myself. They tell me I should sing differently, they tell me what I should wear, or how I should change my body, the list goes on and on. What makes anyone think they have a right to tell someone else what to do? I’m not going to do things differently because people want me to. I’m going to be ME and those who like me for me are the people I will surround myself with. And same goes for YOU. DONT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. I am posting this picture to show that not everyone has to show “signs” to be transgender. You don’t have to pass a test to prove you’re trans…and you sure as hell don’t need ANYONES approval but your own. This life is about finding yourself and becoming YOU. No one’s journey is the same…so stop comparing yourself to others. When I came out people refused to believe I was a man because of how “Feminine” I presented for 18 years.
